Jane Aikman Welch

Jane Aikman Welch was an American author whose writings combined biblical history, early Christianity, and esoteric philosophy. She is best known for The Known and Unknown Life of Jesus Christ (1924), an extensive study that drew upon biblical and historical sources while also incorporating astrology, numerology, and other esoteric interpretations in an effort to reconstruct the chronology and circumstances of the life of Jesus.

Welch also wrote Amen Explained (1924), a shorter work examining the meaning and spiritual significance of the word “Amen.” Her writings belonged to the broader early twentieth-century interest in interpreting Christianity through historical, mystical, and occult traditions. The Known and Unknown Life of Jesus Christ was published by the Yogi Publication Society, placing Welch among the later authors associated with the Society’s expanding catalog of religious, philosophical, and esoteric literature.
