Ali Nomad

Alexander J. McIvor-Tyndall (1860–1940) was the actual author behind the pseudonym Ali Nomad. He was a British-born lecturer, writer, mentalist, and teacher of psychic science who became a well-known figure in American New Thought and occult circles during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Early in his career he became known for public demonstrations of mind reading and unusual mental phenomena, later turning increasingly toward the study and teaching of psychology, psychic development, metaphysics, Eastern philosophy, and higher states of consciousness. He lectured extensively, operated schools and institutes devoted to psychic science, contributed to New Thought publications, and wrote a number of books on mental and spiritual development. He also wrote under the pseudonym Ali Nomad, most notably publishing Cosmic Consciousness: The Man-God Whom We Await in 1913.

McIvor-Tyndall was also closely associated with Dr. Herbert A. Parkyn and became part of the network surrounding Parkyn’s Chicago School of Psychology and University of Psychic Science. He established an affiliated School of Psychic Science and carried his work in psychic phenomena and mental development into the wider New Thought movement.
